How to Install a Printer on the Microsoft Network

These instructions explain how to add a network printer on a BCIT computer using Microsoft Point and Print. Step 1 has different sections for Windows 7 and Windows XP. Please follow the instructions for your operating system.

Add a network printer

    For Windows 7

    1. Click the start button.
    2. In the Search field type "\\gutenberg" and hit Enter
    3. Proceed to Step 4 under "For Windows XP and Windows 7" below

    For Windows XP

    1. Click the start button and then Run.
    2. Type "\\gutenberg" and press OK
    3. Proceed to Step 4 under "For Windows XP and Windows 7" below

    For Windows XP and Windows 7

    An explorer Window will open with a list of printers

    1. Select your desired printer from the list and double-click it

      The printer will automatically install onto your computer.

      Note: Printers are named based on their building, room number and printer model number

      Example

        BCIT Campus Format for Building Name
        Burnaby Campus SW01, NE01, etc. (Building number must be 2 digits, enter SE06 instead of SE6)
        Mathissi Place MP
        Downtown Campus DTC
        Marine Campus BMC
        Aerospace Technology Campuses ATC
        Great Northern Way Campus GNW

    More Information

    • The printer you installed will now appear in the list of available printers in your Windows printer settings.
    • Applications running when a new printer is added may need to be restarted before the new printer is recognized.
    • Additional printers may be added by repeating the above instructions.
